Planning & Plotting: AI Writing Assistants for Non-Writing Activities
In a perfect* world, fiction writers and authors would be fairly compensated for their time and effort spent working for others and themselves, and could therefore afford to hire all of the other professionals needed to bring their stories to the public. This is not a perfect world, especially for new writers trying to get their work discovered.
(* In a truly perfect world, we would live in a post-scarcity society where no one has to work “for a living” because everyone’s basic needs are met, and no one has to worry about going without food, shelter, medical care, etc. due to lack of money. Then people could work because they want to work, and workers wouldn’t be exploited because no one would be trapped in a terrible job by the fear of losing everything. But I digress.)

AI writing tools get an unfair reputation from anti-AI absolutists who can’t see that not all — and not even most — uses of AI tools are unethical. I’ve written about the ethics of AI tools before, so I won’t belabor the point here. Here, we’re going to discuss how writers and authors can use AI writing assistants to help with writing-related tasks that aren’t the actual fiction writing itself by talking about use cases in the planning and plotting stages.
